Ipohmali on Hitz.fm!!!

Yup, Hitz has started to play the song! I first got to know of it today, when my homie uncle REAL told me his colleague heard it on the Morning Crew segment. I must admit I was sceptical at first so I turned on Hitz on my radio while replying mails online.

Suddenly at around 4:30pm plus, I heard it, "Yo, this song's close to the heart..." I could not believe it. Sheer excitement engulfed me. I have had songs being played on radio in my career before but somehow this time it felt so different. Maybe it is because this is my first solo effort and the song means so much to me:)

So it is TRUE. Ipohmali is on Hitz's playlist. BUT just being there won't make it be played more often. They need to know people want to hear it MORE!

SO here I am, telling everyone who likes the song, who supports me, or who is my friend and family to go vote for it! How? You can either call:
03 9543 8888 and ask them to play the song or vote online. All you have to do is signup for an epass which lets you in turn vote for all their ASTRO group or radio stations. After you have signed up, go to: http://www.hitz.fm/05/charts/itzyourcall/
and keep voting. Spread the word to everyone you know to help out:)

Hopefully this can be a good exercise to proof to Malaysians that they hold the power to change the local music industry.

To all those that have heard my songs on the internet before it hit radio, consider yourself special as you were part of a street movement and revolution to save the local music industry. Now help me make "ipohmali" a true commercial hit single:)
Take care and God bless:)

A big thank you to Jakeman and Brian of Hitz.FM for believin' in my music and playin' it on the station. You guys made my day:)

Ipohmali photo tour Pt 1: This is my old Ipoh skool, known for thugs, bad bois and hardknocks:) "..and after school me and my crew DFS, would bboy on the sidewalks..." This was the school:)

Updates, Updates!!!

Ok, I've been MIA in blog time. Its been a hectic week, and today is the only time I got time to blog and keep y'all up to date on what I've been up to.

I have been busy finishing up the AF1 song in world record time, interviews with KLUE, JUICE, and Junk Magazine. Lookout for the Feb issues of Klue and Juice:) in between I met lots of my sponsors and passed promos CDs to them.

Like I said crazy. I am also confirmed to perform for 3 of the 4 Nike Air Force Ones 25th Anniversary Parties. More info on those shows soon but it will be a great chance for y'all to catch me performing live the songs y'all have grown to like.

In between all these, I met my aneh Yogi, or Yogi B to all others and got to pass him the CD and also chilled a bit. We had some bidness discussions and later we went chillin in Borders. To my surprise, I saw NAS's Hip Hop is Dead on the local shelves and Yogi copped it straight away. So kids, if you're buying one original international hip hop CD this month, buy Nas's Hip Hop is Dead. Certified by true emcees worldwide and on Poetic ammo's playlist. Also congrats to Yogi B and Nachatra for selling a crazy 17,000 copies in a mere 3 months. Lookout for their Platinum party soon. I think I should start rappin' in Tamil;)

So far, it is a great 2007 for me and Voyeur Records, and hopefully it will get better. Thanks to all that visited the site, blog, myspaces and to those that liked my music. It is your support that fuel my creativity and drive.

Special thanks to Jerome from KLUE, April and Wan from Juice, and Adlin and John from Junk magazines for all your support and friendship.

Ipohmali feat. DJ Fuzz & Jaclyn Victor of Malaysian Idol
Composed and lyrics by: Point Blanc
Produced by Point Blanc for Voyeur Records
Co-Produced by: Major RE for Voyeur Records
Beat programmed by: Major RE for Voyeur Records
Publishing: So Fly Publishing Sdn. Bhd./ EMI Music Publishing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

(Intro)
Yo, this song’s close to the heart, it’s my hometown baby, representin’/Ipoh where you at?

(Chorus)
Ipohmali Ipoh Ipohmali/ I sing it loud and proud that’s who I be/
Cos’ small town dreams do come through/ so stand up and represent where you from too boo
Uh/ Ipohmali Ipoh Ipohmali/
I sing it loud and proud that’s who I be/
Cos’ small town dreams do come through so stand up and represent where you from too boo

(Verse 1)
Yo I was born and raised in a place/ where the hottest women come from /
Ipoh city/ that’s where I’ll always belong/ Don’t get me wrong yo/
I’m KL lite now/ Its just that my roots stay strong/
Growin’ up as a Ipoh chink kid representin’ it/ Ipoh Garden Eastside yo was the hood I was kickin’ it/
I grew up poor but I had the riches memories/ Wooley Food Centre rockin’ arcades religiously/ And after school/ me and my crew/ DFS would be-boy on the sidewalks in front of Fair Park shops/ And as my story drops/ I recollect I never had them fancy kicks, fancy clothes all I had was Hip Hop/
And peer pressure left me with a scar/cos' when kids were rockin’ Airwalks/I was rockin’ Bata/Back then/ I had nothin’ but a dream to be a rap star/
Now who would have thought this Ipoh chink would get this far?

Chorus 1x

(Verse 2)
Yo I’m a Ipohmali chinaman/ I represent/ small town kids havin’ big dreams so understand/ When I spit this rhyme yo’ I’m spittin’ it right/
My flows divine and miraculous givin’ the blind sight, haha
Back in the day circa ‘95/ In St. Michaels Church where I prayed for my life to get better/
So I can be mah’ family’s provider/ the answer/ was to audition for Poetic Ammunition’s replacement rapper/I dropped the beatbox blew Yogi B away/ got the record deal/ had a choice to make/ leave for KL or do I stay?/ Cos’ everybody sayin’ then bein’ a rapper don’t pay/ From Bingotown to Greentown I was strollin’/ contemplatin’ what mah’ life’s future would be holdin’/ Everybody I knew was all against it/ they said 16 yearold Ipoh kid will never make it/ But I/ persevered/ A boy with no fear/ I had hopes as high as Hotel Excelsior/ For years I proved my critics wrong/ that’s why I wrote this song to tell the world where I’m from cos’ I’m…….

Chorus 1x

(Bridge)
We Ipohmali baby here to show y’all what we got/
Never underestimate yourself/ cos’ you can make it/ no matter where you are/
It ain’t where you’re from but how you make it to the top/
Cos’ we are Ipohmali baby, here to show y’all what we got

To all mah’ peeps all down at JB/ Throw your hands up if y’all hear me/
To all mah cats down at KL city/ Holla at me if y’all hear me/
To all my pheng ew across the sea now/ Penang khia are y’all still down?/
And everybody across the nation/ you can make it just be patient/

(Verse 3)
Now flash forward to the present/ mah’ life at this point/
Nobody knows mah’ real name/ they all call me Point/
I’m an industry veteran/ 10 years in the game/ 3 LPs/ now that’s evidence/
I seen it all/ the ladies, the groupies, the fancy parties, award ceremonies, glory and all that money (money)/ But I learned the hard way that fame came with a price/
For Point Blanc to be more famous than Ipoh chicken rice/

(Outro singing)
Ipoh, Ipoh, if y’all afraid go call the popo/
It’s your boy Point lettin’ you know/ the hottest chink hollerin’ from Ipoh/
(Repeat 1x)

(Outro adlib)
Voyeur Records! It ain’t where you’re from/ its where you at/
So be proud of where you’re from baby, cos’ I am/

Back in the studio

Its 5am and I'm not asleep yet. That's 'cos I just came back from the studio an hour ago and I've been replying emails and blog comments for the last hour.

I was back in the studio to record a song today. But this song is not somethin' from my upcoming album, well in the end it might end up in there as a bonus track, but for now it is a separate project. Here are 2 pics to give you a clue on what the song is all about:

Pic & clue No.1: Point recording in Platinum Studios

Pic & clue No.2: Point recording in Platinum Studios wearing....

And the million dollar answer is...a sneaker? Well, not just any other sneaker, it is THE sneaker(although Ivan Omar and other Jordan heads will protest). The infamous Nike Air Force One.

That's right folks, you heard it here first. Point Blanc is doing a tribute song for the Air Force One in conjuction with the sneaker's 25th Anniversary this year. It is a WET dream come true as I am a hardcore AF1 collector. I guess God does love me a lot for blessing me with this chance of a lifetime. The song will be available as a limited edition single that will be given out in the AF1 anniversary party to be held on the 25th this month. Looks like I will be performing in the event too. More info on the event when I get it.

Phew, its been a crazy but great week so far, I've got a STAR interview tomorrow at 2pm so I better end this quick and head to bed. Ah well, I guess tomorrow's another day to hustle. Good nite folks, wherever you are:)

Mad props go out to Wan aka Wordsmanifest of Rebel Scum for writing some good shit 'bout the singles. Peep it in the official Juice mag blog here

Glad y'all like my songs:)

I've been busy these past few days since the songs were released on the internet. Hence the delay in new postings. I been replying mails, calling and returning important calls, went to pass the singles to the radio stations, TV stations, etc...
its been a crazy couple of days. But I'm lovin' it.

My main motivation has got to be the great response and comments from all the people out there for the 2 songs. As an artiste you are never sure if your songs are any good until people tell you that it is. Cos' most of the time most artistic people "think" that their own shit is the best thing in the world. Some of them are so idealistic and borderline idiotic that they stubbornly snub constructive comments when directed at them.

Luckily I'm a cynical self doubtin' realist. So even before the song was officially out, when I had great feedback from friends and family, I still wasn't sure. Cos' friends and family are biased. That’s a fact. Or some friends just can't tell it to your face that your shit sucks.

So the healthy amount of positive comments that flooded in made my day. I take this opportunity to thank every single person who logged on to the site and heard my music. Even if you hated it, thank you for giving a shit:) Special thanks to those that took the extra effort and posted on their blogs, flooded forums, bulletin boards, etc. You know who y'all are. I thank you sincerely from my heart.

For the peeps who want details, I got like 7000+ hits and 300+ unique visits on the first day alone. I had visits from US, UK, Japan, HK, China, New Zealand too. So to all that spreaded the word, all your hardwork paid off quite well.

The next step is makin' the song a nationwide genuine hit single. As soon as it hits the radio stations, it will be great if the people that like the music called in to request, log on their (radio station) sites and vote for it. Basically create a demand 'cos the stations got the supply lioa. And they LISTEN to what the PEOPLE want. So I hope I get another round of support in this part.

Some might ask, why should I help or give a shit? Well the thing with the music bidness is that everything is related. Here’s a short example:-

If people did all of the above (voting, request), the radio stations will open up to playing more local music because there is demand. When the radio picks it up, the major record labels sit up again and give a shit about local music. When major record labels open up opportunities, local artiste and musicians put more effort in making better music. And lastly consumers get better Malaysian made music and generally the local industry progresses. But the most important key in the end is buying.

So some people complain lots of local acts are not good enough to make them part with their hard earned cash, "just downloadlar" is the usual line. What they don't know is, if they don't buy then the local industry will die. Just read my example above and think of it moving backwards.

Back to the point( no pun intended), for those people that mailed me commenting that my songs made Malaysian music progress to the next level (they said it, I'm not claiming anything) please do support it and make it a hit. Then hopefully that sets a blueprint or bar for the rest of us to improve. And when that happens, hopefully consumers will want to pay for good local music again. And that’s some knowledge for your ass;) peace.

Special thanks to Brian of Hitz.fm for being such a great guy and going out of his way to take me around the ASTRO stations when he did not have to. You the man.

"Ipohmali" on all ipods around the world? "YOU CAN DO IT!!" (Rob Schneider style)
